Judicial Service Assn. president resigns ahead of disputed AGM..!

Magistrate Pasan Amarasena has resigned from his position as president of the Judicial Service Association, whose membership comprises magistrates and district court judges.

His resignation came ahead of a special general meeting of the JSA to discuss the extension of superior court judges’ retirement age.

In a statement addressed to the membership, Amarasena alleged the proposed meeting scheduled for today (11) was being convened contrary to the Association’s long-standing practices and without the required level of member participation.

Immediately afterwards, JSA secretary Suranga Munasinghe issued a statement to the members, completely rejecting the accusations contained in Amarasena’s letter.

He said the meeting would take place as planned despite the president’s resignation, noting he has two documents to prove the Judicial Services Commission secretary has been notified about the meeting.
