A filling station in Beruwala was raided last night (14) after the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) received reports that some fuel stations were selling Euro 3 petrol at higher prices at night while claiming that 92 petrol was unavailable.
Officers from the Kalutara District CAA conducted a surprise inspection and uncovered nearly 6,400 liters of 92 petrol that had been kept hidden instead of being supplied to customers.
During the raid, station officials revealed that they were instructed by company management to sell Euro 3 petrol at night, falsely claiming that 92 petrol was not available.
The fuel stock has been seized and sealed by authorities, and further investigations are underway. Cases against the station and responsible parties are scheduled to be filed at the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
The CAA reiterated its commitment to ensuring fair fuel distribution and warned other stations against similar practices that inconvenience vehicle owners and violate consumer rights.
