The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that electricity tariffs will remain unchanged for the first quarter of 2026, following the failure of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to submit a formal tariff revision proposal on time.
PUCSL said that the CEB’s initial submission, made on December 29, 2025, contained errors and that the board subsequently informed the Commission on January 8, 2026, that further delays were expected.
The Commission said implementing a tariff revision for only a short portion of the quarter could lead to disproportionately high increases, with potential adverse effects on the national economy.
The Commission had originally requested the CEB to submit the proposal by November 14, 2025, for the period January–March 2026. While PUCSL may still consider a revision for the remainder of the first quarter after proper review and public consultation, it has decided that no changes will be applied for now.
PUCSL has directed the CEB to submit its electricity tariff revision proposal for the second quarter of 2026 by February 13, 2026, to ensure timely consideration.
