Confusion at Sivasenai Protest in Jaffna; Police Disperse the Disturbers..!

Individuals who attempted to disrupt a protest organized by the Sivasenai organization in front of the Northern Provincial Department of Education in Jaffna were chased away by the police.

The protest, held today (22nd) in front of the Northern Provincial Department of Education located at Jaffna’s Muthirai Santhi, was organized by Sivasenai to demand action against irregularities in the Northern Provincial education sector and to call for the replacement of the Secretary of the Northern Provincial Ministry of Education.

During the protest, accusations were made that the recently appointed principal of St. Theresa’s Girls’ School in Kilinochchi was selected by the Secretary of the Northern Provincial Ministry of Education despite not having the required qualifications.

It was also pointed out that several schools in Kilinochchi still do not have permanent principals. The protesters expressed strong condemnation that, despite this, a principal lacking proper qualifications was appointed to St. Theresa’s Girls’ School just two days after the previous principal retired.

Amid the protest, a group arrived in a vehicle from Kilinochchi, introduced themselves as representatives of the school development society of St. Theresa’s, and attempted to disrupt the protest tent of the Sivasenai organization.

This led to a tense situation at the site, prompting the nearby police officers on duty to intervene and disperse those causing the disruption.
